Suspect Charged in Attack at College Park Apartment Building

Demonte Antonio Spearman is accused of trying to rob a University of Maryland student at The Varsity.

Prince George's County police say they've made an arrest in connection with an attempted robbery last month at The Varsity in College Park.

Demonte Antonio Spearman, 21, of the 4700 block of Navahoe Street in College Park was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with first degree assault, second degree assault, attempted robbery, and two firearm counts, according to police.

Authorities allege that on the afternoon of Jan. 27, Spearman approached a male University of Maryland student in a common area of The Varsity (8147 Baltimore Ave.) and showed "what is believed to be a fake handgun."
