Student Who Threatened Shooting 'Rampage' Faces More Charges

University of Maryland student Alexander Song was arrested Tuesday after he was released from medical care.

The student who made online threats to go on a campus shooting rampage last month was released from medical care and arrested on Tuesday, according to a police press statement.

Alexander Song, 19, of Fulton, was transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections for processing and released on his own personal recognizance after an appearance in District Court.

This means the judge determined Song was not a flight risk and did not require jail time, The Diamondback reported.

“Given the nature of the threats he made, I respect the decisions of the court but would have liked to have seen him held on bond to keep him in jail longer,” University of Maryland police spokesman Marc Limansky told The Diamondback. (Read the full article here.)

Song was charged on March 11 after he posted on social networking sites threatening messages that he would conduct a campus shooting. "Hopefully I kill enough people to make it to national news,” he wrote." (.)

In addition to the original misdemeanor charged against him, the Office of the State's Attorney for Prince George's County filed additional charges against Song, including misuses of electronic mail, false statement and disturbing the peace, according to the statement.

Song remains banned from campus and will be arrested if he returns without authorization, according to the release.

Song will appear in trial at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10 in Upper Marlboro, according to court documents.
