State Troopers Issue Almost 100 Speeding Citations in Enforcement Effort

A stepped-up traffic enforcement on the Capital Beltway stopped 195 cars between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Maryland State Troopers arrested three people for drunk driving and one for a drug violation during a traffic enforcement initiative on the Prince George's County portion of the Beltway late Friday night and early Saturday morning.

Troopers stopped 195 vehicles and issued 91 speeding citations, according to a press release from the Maryland State Police. Another 11 people were charged with driving on suspended or revoked licenses.

The stepped-up efforts were part of ". On Tuesday, two people were killed in a six-car accident on the Beltway near Ritchie Marlboro Road.

Other traffic citations and warnings issued included:

  • 66 citations for other violations, three for aggressive driving and six for failing to wear seat belts
  • 115 warnings for various traffic offenses
  • 13 safety equipment repair orders for faulty vehicle equipment.     

There were no traffic fatalities or serious injuries on the Capital Beltway overnight.
