Sobriety Checkpoint in Riverdale Park Saturday

Anyone found to be driving under the influence will be arrested, said police.

If you need an extra incentive not to drink and drive on Saturday night, Riverdale Park police will be manning a sobriety checkpoint somewhere within city limits.

The checkpoint is part of a multi-jurisdictional effort taking place throughout Prince George’s County to place a focus on sober driving, according to Riverdale Park police Lt. Andrew Powell.

According to Maryland law, drivers are required to stop at sobriety checkpoints, but they do not have to roll down their windows or engage with officers, said Powell. However not engaging is not insurance you won’t be subjected to a field sobriety test if officers think you may be under the influence.

“We will conduct a field sobriety test and if you are over the limit, you will be arrested,” said Powell.
