Two Officers Injured in 'Serious' College Park Crash

Baltimore Ave. was partially shut down following the accident.

Update, 12:56 p.m.: U.S. Route 1 has been reopened in both directions, according to University of Maryland police.

Original article: Police and fire officials are urging motorists to avoid the area of U.S. Route 1 and Campus Drive following a "serious" police-involved crash Monday morning.

According to Prince George's County fire spokesman Mark Brady, the accident occurred in the 8100 block of Route 1 just north of the gates to the University of Maryland.

Brady tweeted that two law enforcement officers on motorcycles suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and were transported to a trauma center.

Neither officer was from a Prince George's County police force, Brady said.

UMD police report that the southbound lanes of Route 1 are shut down in the area of Melbourne Place. Google Maps shows traffic delays stretching north to Berwyn Road and south through much of campus.
