Police Working to Curb Prostitution at College Park Hotels

The efforts come after more than 30 people were arrested in a sting last month.

On the heels of that netted over 30 arrests, Prince George's County Police and city officials are taking steps to reduce the incidence of prostution in College Park, The Gazette reports.

Maj. Robert Brewer, district 1 commander for the PGPD, told the paper that the concentration of hotels in the city makes it a target for prostitution activities—particularly for encounters arranged online.

According to the Gazette, police are encouraging area hotels to limit customers' ability to check into rooms during business hours, a peak time for prostitution.

As part of , female officers posed as prostitutes and engaged would-be johns on the phone after placing phony ads on solicitation websites.

In all, 12 individuals were charged with prostitution and another 24 with assignation (the act of meeting up with the purpose of exchanging sex for money) at five College Park hotels.
