Police: University Park Man Confronts Burglars, Gives Chase

Police say the homeowner came home and discovered two men inside.

Police are looking for two men in connection with a Monday night burglary in University Park.

According to the University Park Police department, the owner of a home in the 4000 block of Beechwood Road returned home at about 10:50 p.m. to find two men inside. The homeowner confronted them, asking what they were doing in his house.

The two men ran out of the house, chased by the homeowner, according to police.

They ran down Beechwood Road toward Adelphi Road and into a wooded area where the homeowner lost sight of them. Police from University Park, Hyattsville City and Prince Georges County responded to a call from the homeowner, searching the area and processing the house for fingerprints.

Police could not find the two suspects, described as black males, 18-21 years old. Both men had medium-length dreadlocks, were wearing dark clothing and were carrying backpacks.

The homeowner reported a Toshiba laptop computer was stolen and a back window was broken.

Police are asking residents who notice suspicious activity to call 911. Anyone with information about Monday’s burglary, or any other crime, is asked to call the University Park Police Department at 301-277-0050.
