Update: Suspect Detained in College Park Metro Incident

Transit police took a man into custody around 2:15 p.m., according to Metro officials.

Update, 2:28 p.m.:

University of Maryland Police have given the all-clear after a suspect was reportedly taken into custody from Friday's incident at the College Park Metro.

According to WMATA, the man had been involved in an attempted armed robbery in a garage stairwell at the station.

After a searching for a suspect with a handgun, transit police detained the alleged assailant around 2:15 p.m., WMATA said.

Update, 2:07 p.m.: University of Maryland Police say the investigation has been handed over to Metro Transit Police after the suspect "was not located at the scene."

According to Metro officials, the suspect was involved in an armed robbery in the vicinity of the College Park station, but there were no reports of shots or injuries in the incident.

Original article, 1:58 p.m.: Authorities are searching for an armed suspect in the vicinity of the College Park Metro station.

The suspect is armed with a handgun, according to University of Maryland Police.

A victim told UMPD that the man fled east on Paint Branch Parkway toward Riverdale Park and Greenbelt. The victim was reportedly unharmed.

Police said the suspect was wearing a blue shirt and carrying a green duffel bag.

Transit and Prince George's County Police are also on the scene.
