Photo Gallary: Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association Parade
College Park was treated to a parade of fire and rescue units on Saturday.
Volunteer fire and rescue companies from as far away as Marion, Pennsylvania convereged on College Park this weekend to celebrate the final day of the Prince George's County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association and Ladies Auxiliary Annual Convention.
The convention, which ran from September 12 - 18, was capped by Saturday's parade down Rhode Island Avenue. After the parade, friends, family and the public were invited to the Branchville Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Squad firehouse to enjoy a day of food, games and awards.
The parade wasn't just for show - it was also for bragging rights. Each entry, from an 80-year-old fire truck to a fan boat seldom seen outside the bayou, were judged on uniqueness and appearance, among other criteria, with awards presented after the parade. College Park was represented in the parade by the Berwyn Heights Volunteer Fire Department and the Branchville Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Squad. The College Park Volunteer Fire Department did not partcipate in the parade, though they were spotted nearby, racing to put out a car fire.
