Police Identify Officers From PCP-Fueled Shootout

A 21-year-old fired shots at a corporal and eluded capture multiple times before he was arrested, according to the PGPD.

Prince George's County Police have identified the officers involved , in which a man tripping on PCP allegedly evaded capture multiple times before being apprehended.

According to the PGPD, patrol officers were dispatched to the 4700 block of Lakeland Road Thursday around 10:24 p.m. after a report of a man on drugs wielding a gun.

Cpl. Jordan Swonger was the first to arrive on scene, where he allegedly observed the suspect—21-year-old Andrey McKoy—and the suspect's mother walking toward him.

Police said McKoy pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots at Swonger, several of which hit the officer's cruiser. After Swonger returned fire but failed to hit the suspect, the two became involved in an altercation, during which McKoy allegedly dropped a handgun.

Other officers arrived on scene and tried to apprehend McKoy, police said, but the suspect broke free and evaded an attempt to subdue him with a taser.

After running toward Route 1, McKoy produced "what officers believed was another handgun," police said.

"McKoy pointed the item at the officers and made a motion as if he were pulling a trigger, which caused a flash," according to the department. "The object that McKoy removed from his cargo pants pocket was a lighter of some sort. He raised it at police officers while taking a shooting stance as if he were simulating possession of a firearm."

Ofc. James Carpenter and Ofc. Kenneth Tant fired several shots at McKoy, police said, striking him multiple times. Though injured, McKoy reportedly climbed into a marked cruiser and began driving north on Route 1 before crashing into a brick wall at .

Officers pinned McKoy in the vehicle and took him into custody, police said. He was transported to a hospital, where he was later listed in good condition.

Investigators said the weapon recovered from the scene of the initial shootout was a .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol.
