PGPD Officer Sentenced to One Year in UMD Beating Case

All but 30 days of the sentence is suspended.

James Harrison, the Prince George's County police officer convicted of second degree assault in the 2010 beating of a University of Maryland student was sentenced to one year Friday, according to a WJLA report.

All but 30 days of the sentence was suspended and Harrison will serve most of his time in home detention.

Harrison was not found guilty of misconduct of office and Reginald Baker, who was also accused in the beating was found not guilty of all charges.

Both officers were accused of beating UMD student John McKenna after a basketball game against Duke University.

Tell us: Do you think the sentence is fair?

I do not think the sentence is fair. It just shows how cops can do whatever they want and not have much of a price to pay. Wow he gets to stay home and serve his time. I would love to be home more often. Make him serve with some of the people he put in jail.

that's frcn riddiculous! His "namesake" James Harrison got a harsher penalty in the NFL for a "illegal hit" on the FOOTBALL FIELD! He needs to spend some time in general population without a badge a gun... He'll understand what a BEATING is.... and oh btw... don't bend over to pick up the soap!!!! pitiful. (btw i'm white!!!!)

Im white too but color has nothing to do with it. Its typical that cops can get away with it all unstead of using him as an example.

You sound like you think Harrison is white; which he is not.
