Man Threatened While Walking Near Battery Lane

A suspect jumped out and said, "I have a knife," police said.

A victim walking on a Bethesda street was threatened by a man who said he had a knife, according to Montgomery County police.

The victim told police he was walking near the public parking garage that’s located between Rugby Avenue and Battery Lane around 11:30 p.m. Nov. 18, according to police spokeswoman Officer Rebecca Innocenti.

That’s when another man jumped out and said, “I have a knife,” according to Innocenti.

The victim shoved the suspect, who fled towards Battery Lane, Innocenti said.

The victim wasn't injured.

Police are describing the suspect as a male between 25 and 28 years old, between 5 feet, 10 inches and 5 feet, 11 inches tall and between 150 and 180 pounds.

More information about recent Montgomery County crime is available at county police's crime summary.

The latest summary also included a strong-arm robbery in Potomac, during which a 43-year-old woman was robbed and punched in the basement trash room of an apartment building.

I have three friends who have been threatened/mugged on Battery Lane in the last 18 months and I've hear about a 4th. I'm pretty sure there was a knife involved each time. Maybe they'll actually catch the person responsible this time.

Bethesda has the wimpiest criminals. At least, the dudes are wimpy. Don't mess with the women who work in yoga shops. Let's hope the police can put a stop to this hooliganism on/near Battery Lane.

Laura's comment is pretty scary that this is happening with such frequency, and those are only the incidents that she's heard about. It might be helpful in catching the mugger for The Patch to publish the full description supplied by the police press release. Catching the offender should take precedence over some self-imposed political correctness.
