Laurel Man Charged in College Park Attempted Rape

A Laurel man has been charged with second-degree attempted rape after exposing himself and throwing a woman to the ground Saturday in College Park, according to Prince George's County police.
Jose Feliciano Gomez-Lopez, 27, was arrested Sunday at his home in the 900 block of 5th Street in Laurel, the PGPD said in a statement.
Police said Gomez-Lopez approached a woman around 2:45 a.m. Saturday as she was entering an apartment building in the 8100 block of Baltimore Ave. in College Park.

"Gomez-Lopez exposed himself and forced the woman to the ground," police said. "[He] continued to assault her as she fought back and screamed for help."
A resident who heard the victim's screams interrupted the assault, according to the PGPD, and the assailant ran away.

Investigators were able to "quickly" identify Gomez-Lopez as a suspect and took him into custody the next day. Police said he later admitted his involvement in the assault.
Gomez-Lopez is currently in the custody of the Prince George's County Department of Corrections. If convicted of second-degree rape—a felony—he faces a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
