UPDATED: Family Displaced by Fire in Berwyn Heights

Damages estimated at $100,000.

A family of four is displaced after a fire destroyed their home at the 8800 block of Cunningham Drive in Berwyn Heights, according to a statement from the Prince George's County Fire Department Spokesman Mark Brady.

Firefighters were alerted just after 3 p.m. today that smoke was emerging from the one-story home. After arriving at the scene, they determined no one was home.

The fire was burning in the kitchen and living room, extending into most areas of the house. It took firefighters 15 minutes to extinguish the blaze.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Preliminary estimates have damage cost at $100,000.

The family is displaced from its Berwyn Heights home, according to Brady's Tweets.

Prince George's County Fire personnel have responded to a working fire at 8823 Cunningham Dr. in Berwyn Heights, according to a Tweet from the department spokesman.

Personnel are also still on the scene of an  at a chemistry building on the University of Maryland campus.
