Fire Displaces Six UMd. Students

No injuries were reported, but the students will likely be out of their home for around 24 hours.

Six University of  Maryland students are temporarily displaced after a fire erupted in their College Park home Monday afternoon.

The fire was reported around 2 p.m. on the 7600 block of Hopkins Ave. When firefighters arrived on the scene they reported a fire in the basement of the two-story dwelling.

According to fire officials on the scene, the fire was confined to the basement area of the house with no extension to the upper floors.

According to volunteer Fire Chief William Corrigan of College Park Fire Department, the students most likely will be displaced  for 24 hours.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly with no injuries reported, and the cause the fire is under investigation
