A carjacking that reportedly occurred late Tuesday night in College Park was actually a story fabricated by the apparent victim, police report.
Shoaib Khan, 35, of Gaithersburg has been criminally charged by the Prince George's County Police with making a false statement to a police officer, according to the Prince George's County Police blog. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of six months in prison and/or a $500 fine, according to the blog.
, he was approached and assaulted by three males at the 4500 block of Hartwick Road and that they stole his car, police reported.
During the course of their investigation, detectives learned that Khan's vehicle was found on fire in the 21600 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring approximately 45 minutes prior to the the alleged carjacking, according to police.
