College Park Bank Robber Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison

Antonio Michael McClurkin robbed M&T Bank in College Park last year.

A man responsible for a College Park bank robbery was sentenced today in U.S. District Court to 15 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, according to a press statement from the U.S. Attorney's office.

According to the release, Antonio Michael McClurkin, 26, of Oxon Hill, pled guilty to robbing the M&T Bank at 4511 Knox Road on Sept. 16, 2010. The Prince George's County Police department arrested McClurkin three days later, .

Here is how the events unfolded on Sept. 16 and in the following days, according to the press statement:

  • McClurkin, posing as a customer, approached a teller, displayed what appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun, pulled back the slide as if to chamber a round, and pointed the gun at the teller.
  • He demanded money, and the teller handed him $1,593, which contained an explosive dye pack. McClurkin fled the bank and the dye pack exploded, burning McClurkin’s body.
  • It was 12 days later that the teller identified McClurkin’s photo from a six-person array, as the person who robbed the bank.
  • A Prince George’s County Police detective interviewed McClurkin two days after that. McClurkin claimed to have used a fake gun in the College Park bank robbery and showed the detective the burn scar on his body from the exploding dye pack.

At the time of the interview, McClurkin was being held in the Fairfax County Detention Center for unrelated charges, according to the release.  that McClurkin had four open cases against him, all traffic related.

McClurkin also has two previous narcotics convictions, according to the release.
