Bladensburg Officer Dies After Route 100 Accident

Police said the officer suffered a medical emergency before crossing the median and striking another vehicle.

A Bladensburg police officer was killed Saturday morning after his police vehicle crossed the median on Route 100 in Pasadena and struck another vehicle traveling westbound, according to police.

The officer, Brian Johnson, 38, is a nine-year veteran of the Blandensburg Police Department and was off duty at the time of the incident, said police.

A preliminary police investigation determined Johnson may have suffered a medical emergency before the accident. He was transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with critical injuries and was later pronounced dead, reported the Baltimore Sun. The collision happened at about 9 a.m. on Route 100 near Catherine Avenue, said police.

The operator of the other vehicle was treated and released at the scene, police reported.
