Arrests Made in Break-Ins at UMD Varsity Team House

Three men, including one student, face charges of burglary and theft in the case.

University of Maryland police say three people have been arrested in connection with a string of break-ins at the College Park campus's Varsity Team House.

Igor Cooper Rosensteel, Richard Nathan Landa, and Ian Robert Hammer face charges of burglary and theft in the case. Hammer is a student at UMD.

According to police, athletic equipment worth more than $20,000 was taken from the facility in November and December, much of it belonging to the university's lacrosse and baseball programs. The perpetrators reportedly forced their way into the building.

Many of items were then being resold on an auction website, police said. WJZ reports that some of the equipment was purchased by a store in Fullerton, MD, whose owner told the news channel he wasn't aware they were stolen.

After further investigation, authorities carried out several search warrants on campus and in the Baltimore area. Police said much of the stolen property was recovered at that point.

Rosensteel, Landa, and Hammer have all been released on bond.
