A letter to the Mayor and Council

Some modest steps for North College Park

Dear Mayor Fellows,

I am writing to transmit to the Mayor and Council the budget priorities of the North College Park Citizens Association for the fiscal year commencing July 1st, 2012.  Resolutions supporting these priorities were adopted at our meeting of February 9th after listening to wish lists from Council members Kabir, Mitchell, and Wojahn.  We appreciated their presence and their ideas.

1.  We support a substantial expansion in the area of North College Park illuminated by the pedestrian street lights installed on Lackawanna.  These lights have proven their superiority to the older lights in safety, perception of safety, energy efficiency, and durability.  Many streets in North College Park are poorly lit -- the current lights are often badly spaced, intermittent, and weak.  We hope you can fund the proposed expansion in part by removing the old lights.

2. We support modest public improvements to the infrastructure and streetscape in the Hollywood commercial area.

3. We support incremental steps toward a community center in North College Park, particularly serving seniors and teens.  In the coming fiscal year, attractive activities (e.g., yoga classes) could be scheduled either in vacant Hollywood commercial space or in the Park and Planning side of the Youth and Family Services building.

Sincerely,

Mark Shroder
