Shuttle Discovery Soars Across DC on Final Flight

The retired spacecraft is set to go on display at the Smithsonian's Udvar-Hazy Center.

Tens of thousands looked on Tuesday morning as Shuttle Discovery and its specially-equipped 747 carrier made a series of flyovers across the DC region, a fitting end to the spacecraft's final scheduled flight.

The retired shuttle was en route from Florida to Dulles International Airport, where it safetly landed later in the morning. From there, the vehicle will be transported a short distance to the Smithsonian's Udvar-Hazy Center and placed on permanent display starting Friday.
