IN LOVING MEMORY OF GIB GIBSON

GIB GIBSON - Creatures with both two and four legs in the animal rescue community will sorely miss her nurturing spirit.

The companion animal rescue community lost a dear friend, Gib Gibson, this month.  She was a force of nature, and a dedicated foster to many dogs that benefited from her love.  No words of tribute are better than her own, in telling the story of one of the many canines whose lives she touched and gave reason to flourish again.  Creatures with both two and four legs will sorely miss her nurturing spirit.

“As a CARA rescuer, I have had the privilege of finding homes for many abused and neglected dogs, but none were quite as troubled or sad as Ms. Daisy.  While suffering a breach birth, Daisy had been left in a box to die at the door of a shelter.  The shelter immediately called our friends at Noah’s Ark for medical assistance.  Noah’s Ark retrieved Ms. Daisy, and delivered her six pups – all dead.  No one knows how long she had spent in painful labor, or what her life had been like before.

When I picked Ms. Daisy up, the first thing I noticed were her big, brown beagle eyes radiating sadness.  Daisy walked with her head down, and was alarmed by any little sound.  She was a timid soul, around other dogs and especially around humans.  After time, when I brought Ms. Daisy into the office with me, she cowered under my desk, never making a sound.

One of the attorneys I worked with fell in love with Ms. Daisy and her story, and thought he might like to adopt her.  She wasn’t an easy dog to adopt.  She didn’t want to go to yet another home, didn’t want to trust new humans, and didn’t want to learn how to fit into a world that had been so painful for her.

I’ve kept in touch with Ms. Daisy, and recently asked for a picture of her.  I could not believe the sweet, happy face in the picture!  I am so proud of her, and delighted that she is so loved. She has finally crawled out of her shell, and into a loving new world.  What more can any rescuer ask, than a truly happy ending?”
