Staying "Fit"

Used to a five-day-a-week exercise regimen back in the states, I soon discovered that the odds of finding a decent gym in Beijing would not be in my favor...

Fourth attempt at finding a usable gym on campus was a total fail. My roommate and I have asked everyone everywhere where we could find a gym and they have all sent us on a wild goose chase. The big new gym on campus is only available to sports teams and PE majors. The "old gym" that was supposed to be free to everyone was literally torn down two days ago. There was supposed to be a little dinky gym in the basement of our apartment building but no one at the front desk has heard of it...There is an outdoor track and field for running, but since the pollution is so bad here, everyone is advised to stay indoors and especially not to do any outdoor activities. We bought free weights yesterday. Well....correction- we bought a single ten lb weight and a single 5 lb weight because, despite this being China and all, they were really expensive (and we're really cheap ha ha!). The common vibe I'm getting from this place is that physical activity is just not that important...soo....

Good thing we live on the 10th floor of our building though. Just a few trips up and down the twenty flights it takes to get us home and back will get our tushes beach ready in no time.
