CPCL Reading Series Begins June 4

Come on out to the College Park Community Library on June 4 to hear some accomplished poets do their thing.

"We're launching a reading series to showcase local (and regional) literary talent. The first reading will be at the end of May or the beginning of June—we’re still working out the details."

Those were the words I wrote in my last previous blog post (""). Well, I'm happy to announce that most of those details have been worked out and that we plan to hold our first reading on June 4 at 7:30 pm.

Joining us for an evening of poetry will be Patricia Valdata, a writer from Elkton, Maryland, and Elisavietta Ritchie, a recent nominee for poet laureate of Maryland.  Following their performances will be an open mic for anyone in the audience who wants to share their work (more details on that at the event). Right now, we have three events scheduled in this series (two in June and 1 in September) and we're looking to fill dates in July ans August. For more informaiton on the CPCL reading series, including how you can participate, contact us. By the way, these free of charge.

And hey, if readings aren't your thing, don't forget, on May 14 we’re showing the documentary film, Bag It, in conjunction with College Park’s Committee for a Better Environment. If you haven’t seen this film about the environmental costs of cheap plastic bags, come on out. The film starts at 7:00 pm and there will be a discussion afterward.

Of course, if you aren't into films or readings, we also have books. Lots and lots of books.

In closing, one last reminder that we’re always interested in volunteers to help us staff the library, be it on a weekly basis or as a “sub” for one our regular folks. If you’d like to help out, please get in touch. The work is easy and your assistance will be appreciated.

Until next time, keep reading.
