Books Are Just the Beginning

The College Park Community Library is about more than books. Starting this month, we'll be also be holding events, such as a Shakespeare's Birthday Party and a screening of the documentary "Bag It."

The College Park Community Library (CPCL) has about 5,000 books on its shelves, but, regardless of the number of books in our catalog, the CPCL has always been about more than books. Ultimately, it was created to serve the community and, starting this month, we'll be doing just that in ways that go beyond merely offering city residents something to read.

On April 23, the CPCL will team up with the College Park Arts Exchange to host a from 6 to 8:30 pm.

An experienced classical actor, Ian Blackwell Rogers will lead participants through the steps of "Table Work," which helps break down Shakespeare's language into manageable chunks, improving your comprehension and helping you get more out of Shakespeare's language than ever before!  Ian is currently playing Macbeth with Shakespeare Factory Players, and has recently appeared in As You Like It, Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Winter's Tale and Twelfth Night.  Ian will also provide coaching in the Michael Chekhov technique as time allows.

For greater detail, visit the CPCL website. There is no charge for this event, although donations will be accepted.

Then, on May 14, the CPCL, in conjunction with the city's Committee for a Better Environment, will screen the documentary "Bag It" and then hold a discussion/question-and-answer session.

We've got more events in the works too, but I don't want to get ahead of myself. To see what we've got planned, stay tuned to the CPCL website.

Until next time, keep reading.
