And while we already celebrated “” in September, Americans developed additional days to commemorate the joy of eating chocolate with “National Chocolate Day” and “National Chocolate Candy Day” in the month of December.
The National Confectioners Association (NCA) annually recognizes “National Chocolate Days” on both December 28 and December 29. Also, numerous food and holiday listing sites recognize December 28 as “National Chocolate Candy Day”.
According to the National Chocolate Candy Day website Americans consume approximately 2.8 billion pounds of chocolate annually. This averages to be about 11 pounds of chocolate per person.
The website also points out that during the Second World War, the U.S government commissioned Milton Hershey to create a candy bar that could be added to the soldier’s rations. The chocolate bar that was created is the still-famous: Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar.
