Facts about Maryland’s Education Investments

Here's a look at the recent funding for schools in Maryland.

By Rick Abbruzzese, Director of Public Affairs

In honor of American Education Week, we wanted to share these charts with facts about Maryland’s continued commitment to public education. We also wanted to thank the Maryland State Education Association and the National Education Association for their help in upholding Maryland’s marriage equality and Dream Act laws.

Been doing some research of my own...for a friend: "After they retire or their children leave home, seniors often find it stressful to readapt after many years of focusing primarily on caring and providing for others. Sometimes they experience loneliness and struggle to find a renewed sense of meaning and purpose. Later life, says Dr. Masa, is an ideal phase for contemplating life’s big spiritual and philosophical questions. This phase can also be a joyous period of liberation and fulfillment in which people finally have the time to explore their own interests, dreams or hobbies. The Internet abounds with social hubs and online forums where people can gather to discuss shared interests and experience a sense of community. Seniors who wish to continue working can volunteer for causes they care about or start their own online businesses to earn extra money. Even for non-entrepreneurial seniors, many legitimate online work-from-home job opportunities exist. For example, author Connie Brentford, who has been making a living working online from home for a decade, has written a series of books that provide details on a large, diverse list of work-from-home possibilities."

So what's your point? A think tank is devoted to only one topic? Typos are not uncommon? Read the Sun, or The Washington Post. Your last sentence qualifies the article since you made it a statement and not a question. Brush up on your Grammar Frank.

Brian, I apologize to the people of the Patch family. I feel terrible. Here I am playing with these people while Tyler is in Shock Trauma. I didn't know. My thoughts go out to his family. My neighbor is a nurse there and it's the best hospital in the world. He's in good hands.

Absolutely agree that just showing increased spending really proves nothing. To Kidwell I have to say "Bullhockey!" Parental involvement does not mean showing up at school when your kids are in trouble. Parental involvement is at home by teaching your children to show respect to others and to themselves. Have you even seen how some kids act in school now? You're seriously going to say that there aren't difficult kids anywhere you look when volunteering? Too many parents treat school as a baby sitting service while taxpayers are forking over upwards of $14,000 per student. Many classrooms are overcrowded even at this ridiculous per student rate. A large amount of money going to the schools is being wasted.

wow, reading all the comments, I say, STOP government funding for schools. Its NOT the federal government role to support such things. I also believe that our education is overly funded with NO oversight to prevent fraud and the abuse of power such as Board of Education. Nobody in education should be making over 100k a year, but YET, we have a lot that do..
