Organizers of the Golfing for Education Tournament hope they will surpass last year’s fundraising totals at this year’s event, which will take place at the Woodmore Country Club Golf Course Wednesday.

Last year, the tournament raised more than $150,000 for the Excellence in Education Foundation, a nonprofit that funds scholarships and builds partnerships with businesses to improve student learning.

Event sponsorships and golfer registration fees contribute to the fundraising totals.

Former Washington Redskins running back Brian Mitchell will be the celebrity host and NBC 4 anchor Pat Lawson Muse will be the banquet emcee.

Mitchell, a member of the Woodmore Country Club, said that a golf tournament is a great way for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together and raise money.

“I think it’s one of the best games to be involved in,” Mitchell said. “That one sport—golf—brings so many people together for a great cause.”

In his role as a celebrity host, Mitchell is looking forward to mingling with attendees, participants and sponsors.

“It’s going to be a great day and having people enjoy themselves will make the end result even better,” he said.

The tournament begins at 7 a.m. and tee time is at 8:30 a.m. The golf course is located at 12320 Pleasant Prospect in Mitchellville.
