Lakeland Heritage Weekend 2013 - Sunday

Heritage Weekend will be held Friday, September 13 through Sunday, September 15, 2013 at College Park Community Center, 5051 Pierce Avenue, College Park, Maryland 20740. This annual celebration will remember the past of Lakeland and other historic African American communities and how they drew together to support residents educationally, spiritually and socially. We will look at the lessons from that past and how they can be used to improve our future. With recent attention to the particular challenges of our youth within society we look toward the lessons of our grandfathers, aunts and neighbors to find a ways to not only survive but to thrive.  We celebrate the achievements of Lakelanders of today.

Heritage Weekend will begin on Friday evening with Xtreme Teens Beach Party for youth ages 10 to 17 at 7 PM. To join the fun please contact the College Park Community Center at (301) 441-2647. Wear best shorts and tee shirt. There will be free food, dancing, music and craft along with prizes for best beach outfit, dancer and more.

On Saturday evening the Embry All Stars and the CP Dream team will go head to head in basketball. Local Cheerleaders will root them on. Volunteer cheerleaders, ages 10 to 17 are needed. To be a cheerleader for the game check out our website, LakelandCHP.com for information. That evening the second addition of Lakeland Sports Cards will be released. These cards feature Lakeland athletes of the past and today.  Athletes will be honored during half time of the game and during a reception afterword.
