Blessing & Lighting of the Luminaria

Seven Nights of Lights

The Franciscan friars invite the community to join them for the Blessing and Lighting of the Luminaria on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 1 p.m. at the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land. More than 900 luminaria will line the outdoor Rosary Portico from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Eve. The lit candles represent opening our hearts and homes to the peace and joy of the Holy Family.
The luminaria are handmade by the all-volunteer Franciscan Monastery Garden Guild. Each is dedicated to an individual, for whom prayers are offered throughout Christmas week.
The Franciscan Monastery is at 1400 Quincy St. NE, Washington, DC 20017 (free parking/Brookland-CUA Metro/H6 bus). For more information visit myfranciscan.org or call 202-526-6800.
