UPDATE: Rhode Island Avenue Open; Some Customers Without Water

A portion of the service road at the intersection of Rhode Island and Cherokee Street remains closed.

Update: 9:40 p.m.: Rhode Island Avenue in the Hollywood section of College Park is now open after being partially shut down early this evening due to a water main break.

A 10-inch main on the service road at the 9100 block of Rhode Island and Cherokee was found to have ruptured, and an estimated 13 to 15 customers are still without water, according to I.J. Hudson, a Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) spokesperson.

The repair crews had some initial difficulty locating one of the valves, which had been paved over, Hudson said, and as a result the service road will likely need some repaving.

Crews are now on the scene repairing the break and customers should have water back in the next four to six hours, Hudson said.
