UMD Marching Band to Participate in Inaugural Parade

The group was selected from a pool of more than 2,800 applicants.

The Mighty Sound of Maryland—the University of Maryland's vaunted marching band—is set to participate in the inaugural parade following Barack Obama's Jan. 21 swearing-in ceremony.

The band is one of about fifty organizations to receive an invitation to march out of a pool of more than 2,800 applicants (see the full list here).

It's not the first time the band's services have been called on for an inauguration. According to WUSA, members previously appeared in Ronald Reagan's (1985), John F. Kennedy's (1960), Dwight Eisenhower's (1953), and Woodrow Wilson's (1917).
