Schaefer's Body to Tour Baltimore Landmarks

The former governor's body will lay in state in the in the State House rotunda, Baltimore City Hall rotunda, before being laid to rest at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

The body of former Gov. William Donald Schaefer, who died Monday at the age of 89, will take a tour of Baltimore landmarks before he is laid to rest.

Schaefer, who helped revitalize the city, will visit Harborplace, the National Aquarium and the stadiums, said Michael Golden, who served as Schaefer's press secretary during his state service.

Schaefer will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, April 25 in the State House rotunda.

Plans call for Schaefer to lie in state in the Baltimore City Hall rotunda that evening. Before the casket arrives, it will pass the Baltimore landmarks. A complete list of stops will be released later today, Golden said.

The casket is expected at City Hall at 5 p.m. Monday, and the public is welcome in City Hall till 9 p.m., Golden said.

Schaefer will lie in state at City Hall from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday as well.

The funeral will be about 11 a.m. at Old St. Paul's Church at Charles and Saratoga streets. Golden said arrangements are still being finalized.

Interment in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, where he will be placed in a crypt alongside Hilda Mae Snoops, his long-time companion, Golden said.
