PETA Factory Farm Display Coming to UMD Tuesday

The group plans to set up sow gestation crates that replicate the cramped conditions experienced by pigs.

Animal rights organization PETA is set to bring a factory farm display to the University of Maryland's Hornbake Plaza on Tuesday.

According to a statement from peta2, PETA's youth division, the group will set up a tent on Hornbake Plaza with sow gestation crates designed to replicate the cramped conditions experienced by pigs on factory farms.

The group will also show "Glass Walls"—a PETA-produced documentary narrated by Paul McCartney—and offer vegetarian/vegan samples and starter kits.

"College is the time to consider new ideas, and peta2's factory-farm display gives students an idea of how much suffering goes into a chicken nugget or a beef burger," Director Marta Holmberg said in a statement.

The display is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
