Great Escape: Celebrate Earth Day with Free Coffee

Let Patch help you make the most of your me-time.

Occasionally, you get a solid block of "you" time. Take it. Each week, we’ll tell you about one great idea to give you a much deserved break, and make your life a little easier - maybe a whole lot easier.

This week's Great Escape?

Scientists have discovered a multitude of new planets in recent years.  However, Earth is the only planet where scientists have confirmed the presence of coffee beans and tea leaves. Celebrate this fact by enjoying a free coffee from Starbucks when you bring in your own reusable mug or tumbler. If you don't have one, just ask for a "for here" cup and Starbucks will pick up your tab. Enjoy good coffee and the good feelings that come from knowing you saved a tree from being recycled into a disposable paper cup.

Now that you're full of Earth Day spirit, you may want to continue saving the world.  A good place to start is by planting a tree. Maryland makes it easy to find a new arboreal friend by offering coupons for $25 dollars off the price of a new tree. Governor Martin O'Malley has politely challenged state residents to plant 50,000 trees in 2011, so don't let him down. Once you've planted your tree, visit the state's website and register your tree for the chance to win gift cards, rain barrels and yacht tours. Taking the real winner (the tree) along is optional.
