Where/When: American Legion Post 217, 9218 Baltimore Ave., College Park, MD, 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. Saturday
Why go: Because wearing an A-line dress is more comfortable than a pencil skirt. Event organizers encourage participants to dress in 1940s fashion, though it’s not required. At no cost, receive a swing dance lesson, enjoy live music and light refreshments.

American Doll Store Grand Opening

Why go: Because the closest American Doll store otherwise is in Manhattan, and for many young girls this is a big deal. Grand-opening celebration will include crafts, doll drawings and more. Perhaps a dad out there is looking for a special outing with his daughter on Father’s Day this Sunday?
More info: Check the site, and—if you’re lucky enough to find a time slot that’s not booked—make a dining reservation for the American Girl Bistro.
Where/When: City Hall, 4500 Knox Road, College Park, MD, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sunday
Why go: Because there is no grocery store within walking distance of this area.
Price: Free to attend, but unless you're just there to smell the fruit and veggies, bring cash.
More info: Call (301) 297-9370.
