Editor's Pick for the Weekend

Santa fly-in, Kids Bingo and a concert with the Maryland Cantabile concert.

I hate to play favorites among my own picks, but based on the thumbnail picture alone, I can already tell that the Santa Fly-in at the College Park Aviation Museum is going to be the event of the season. Any season. All seasons.

Basically, Santa arrives at the College Park airport not at the helm of eight flying reindeer, but in the cockpit of a helicopter, ready for an afternoon of holiday cheer and photo-ops with eager children.

The event begins at 12 p.m., when Santa will presumably pull in from his long journey from the North Pole, and lasts until 4 p.m. Children can do holiday arts and crafts in the intervening four hours.

The Branchville Volunteer Fire Company is hosting its annual Kids Bingo event this Saturday at the Fire/EMS station. Children from ages 5 through 13 are invited to play, and the $5 cost of admission includes hot dogs, ice cream and soft drinks. Everyone is awarded a door prize, and Bingo winners get additional (age appropriate) prizes as well.

Also, a "surprise visitor" from the North Pole is scheduled to make an appearance. We're betting it will be a narwhal, but you'll have to come to find out!

The Branchville Volunteer Fire Company is located at 4905 Branchville Rd. Doors open at 11:45 p.m.; Bingo begins at 1 p.m. Admission is $5.

The Maryland Cantabile is having a concert on Saturday at 8 p.m. at the University Park Church of the Brethren. Founded by former members of the Maryland Chorus at the University of Maryland, the Cantabile will perform works by early English composers, and feature soloists from the University of Maryland School of Music.

The concert is expected to last about an hour, with a reception to follow.

The University Park Church of the Brethren is located at 4413 Tuckerman St., University Park. Admission to the concert is free.
