Aurora Shooting Survivor Due to Attend UMd. School of Music

Petra Anderson, 22, is recovering after being struck by four shotgun pellets during Friday's attack.

One of the survivors of Friday's mass shooting at a movie theatre in Aurora, CO plans to attend graduate school at the University of Maryland, the Sacramento Bee reports.

Petra Anderson, a 22-year-old Colorado native, was admitted to the University of Maryland School of Music prior to the attack. She graduated from the University of the Pacific's Conservatory of Music in May.

According to her family, four shotgun pellets struck Anderson when a gunman opened fire during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises. Three reportedly hit her arm, while another "went through her nose, rode up the back of her cranium, and hit the back of her skull."

But Anderson appears to be on her way to a full recovery after undergoing neurosurgery. Those close to her have launched a fundraising campaign to support both Petra's medical bills and those of her mother, Kim Anderson, who is currently battling cancer.

It was not immediately known if Anderson's injuries would affect her plans to attend Maryland.

Friday's shooting left 12 dead and 58 injured. Police arrested 24-year-old James Eagan Holmes in the parking lot of the theatre shortly after the attack. He remains the only suspect in the case.
