5 Things You Need to Know Today: July 8

Little bites of news you just can't live without.

It's Friday! Independence Day weekend is over, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to look forward to today, especially if you're willing to look a little ridiculous for free food.

1. For anyone (anyone?) who has a cow costume, it's a great day. Wear your costume to Chick-fil-A for a free meal in honor of Cow Appreciation Day. If you don't own a costume, get creative and make one. At the very least, dress up a little like a cow, and you'll get a free entree. The Chick-fil-A at the Stamp Student Union at the University of Maryland campus is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

2. In case you missed it, Patch reported yesterday on the  that could arise when homeless animals intercepted by city animal control are in the care of a second party, like foster care.
