5 Things You Need to Know Today

Happy Tuesday, College Park. We trust you are well-rested after this scorching three-day weekend, and are ready to take on the last day of May with gusto. 

To help you get by, here's today's list of five things you need to know:

1. Shuttle-UM take effect today. Also, Farm Drive from Valley Drive to the UMd. Cambridge Community will be closed between June 6 and the end of July. A detour will be available through Lot Q.

2. The temperature yesterday tied for a record high of 98 degrees at BWI, according to the Baltimore Sun. It's going to be another hot one today, so the county fire/EMS department advises you to wear light colored clothes, eat small meals, drink plenty of water and avoid heat as much as possible. 

3. The UMd. men's lacrosse team was defeated 9-7 on Monday by the University of Virginia, securing UVa. its fifth National Title. Boo.

4. Many residents braved yesterday's heat to attend College Park's annual Memorial Day ceremony at the Veterans Memorial on Route 1. Check out our photos . 

5. IKEA announced that it is installing 5,150 solar panels at its College Park location, generating 1,556,600 kilowatt-hours per year. That's one way to put the blazing sun to good use, eh?
