5 Things You Need to Know This Week

Transportation issues abound for the week of May 23.

Change is astir as the University of Maryland student exodus continues from the area. Here are 5 Things You Need to Know about this week's transportation situation. 

1. On campus, northbound Mowatt Lane between Campus Drive and Mowatt Lane Garage will be closed from June 1 to mid-August. Preinkert Drive can be used as an alternate route.

2. Interested in driving a cab? According to WTOP, Prince George's County will hand out applications for 50 new taxicab driver's licenses starting Monday at the Business License Office in Largo. Ten stand-by applications will also be available in case any of the 50 applicants fail to take the required exam. Travis Bickle aspirants need not apply. 

3. Shuttle-UM is currently operating on its Intersemester Transit Schedule. We'll post it, along with the summer schedule, later on today.

4. A whopping 11,000 people in the Metro area participated in this year's Bike to Work Day, setting a new regional record. Congratulations to everyone involved!

5. On Friday, Dist. 3 County Councilman Eric Olson announced plans for a new pedestrian crossing signal to be installed at the Trolley Trail at Paint Branch Parkway, significantly improving the trail's safety for pedestrians and cyclists. The signal is slated to be installed by early summer.
