Small Business Saturday
Many of you are probably already familiar with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but did you know about Small Business Saturday on Nov. 26?
Many of you are probably already familiar with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but did you know about Small Business Saturday?
This year it falls on Nov. 26, which is the Saturday following Thanksgiving. American Express is encouraging customers to support small businesses during one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year. Of course they're probably hoping consumers will use their American Express cards while they do it, but I suppose they need the money for this campaign to come from somewhere.
Some of the things American Express, and some other (not so small) partner businesses are doing for Small Business Saturday include:

- They are offering one-time $25 statement credit for American Express cardholders that shop at an independently owned small business on 11/26 (more info).
- FedEx gave out 30,000 $25 American Express gift cards (more info).
- Giving away $100 in free geo-targeted Facebook ads on Facebook for 10,000 independently owned small businesses.
- Clear Channel Radio is running radio spots to promote the effort.
Whatever their intentions, I do appreciate that American Express is encouraging consumers to support independent businesses, even if only for one day.
For those of you who are American Express cardholders, or for the lucky few that got one of the coveted 30,000 gift cards, what will you spend that extra $25 on at an independent business on Nov. 26?
