Who's Going to Looney's Tonight?

About 200 people stream into Looney's Pub in the first hour of opening.

Update 7:09 p.m.: Food was great, at least the BBQ pork sliders that I ordered. The cole slaw on top made it.

The place is hopping, and the owners are calling it a successful opening so far. The customers I've heard from love it.

Turns out they only just received the liquor license from the county yesterday, due to a delayed inspection. Beer was delivered just this afternoon, hours before opening.

I got to run... This is my last and final update for the night... I have to head to at now. Hopefully didn't miss the District 1 county police commander's speech!

Pictures later.

Update, 6:16 p.m.: About 200 people have entered Looney's Pub in an hour's time, according to the employee at the entrance checking IDs and counting patrons.

"It's about to thick in here," he says.

Update, 5:45 p.m.: I'm sitting here on the deck at Looney's Pub with some BBQ pork sliders on their way.

Upon arriving at 5 p.m., Looney's was still closed, and many students (and some non-student residents) were waiting on the front steps. . The doors opened at about 5:15 p.m.

And boy did it fill fast.

Lots of students. Lots of space. Lots of TVs. About to go snap some pics for ya.

PARKING: Parking was a challenge. The Varsity guest lot was filled. I've heard horror stories about trying to park at the lot behind Town Hall Liquors and not actually going to the businesses there. (I hear they're pretty staunch about towing.) Ended up parking in the lot on University of Maryland campus, just over the foot bridge.

WI-FI: Wi-Fi is not up and running yet ... Though I doubt anyone else is coming here tonight to live blog.

Oh... the sliders are here. Um, those pictures will have to wait. (Note: About 15 minutes for food to be served. There was a little confusion on part of the employee about which table the food went to ... but the sliders look great!)

Original Story, 3:45 p.m.: Looney's Pub will open its doors for the first time at 4 p.m. Friday, and co-owner William Larney Jr. said there is live music scheduled all weekend.

I'll be heading over to check it out this evening. If the Wi-Fi is up and running, I'll live blog about the service, atmosphere and food, much like I did for The . If the Wi-Fi isn't available yet, I'll fill you in later, so check back on Patch.

Co-owner, they planned on it being "more of a restaurant theme than anything."

According to the property use agreement, the owners plan to offer karaoke nights, DJ entertainment and happy hours, as well as a .

This 8150 Baltimore Ave. location is the fourth Looney's Pub to open. The other three are at Canton, Bel Air and Fulton. Here's some feedback we've heard about other locations:

  • The Bel Air Patch editor said, "Looney's is my favorite place to watch sports and the food is great."
  • JenniferDarland said on Twitter, "I think it'll be interesting- College Park bar scene is much different than what Looney's promotes in Bel Air ... I think the main [difference] will be that [College Park] is a college town and most other Looney's locations are in more residential areas."
