UPDATE: Ledo Restaurant Schedules Opening Day

Various setbacks forced owners to push back the opening day from early August.

The opening of Ledo Restaurant has been officially set for Aug. 23, said Tommy Marcos Jr., co-owner of the eatery.

Originally located in Adelphi, the legendary restaurant will occupy the first floor of a city parking garage at 4509 Knox Road.

The opening has been delayed for about a week because of electrical power issues.

"We had to wait for Pepco to come in and give us full power," Marcos said.

The Ledo Restaurant is steeped in history. It was first established in 1955 by Tommy Marcos Sr.; the Adelphi location was the original of the now well-known Ledo Pizza chain. However, the restaurant is no longer connected to the national franchise.

The restaurant is known for its pizzas as well as specials, including lasagna, Chicken Oscar and stuffed shrimp. Jimmy Marcos, brother of Tommy and co-owner of the business, has noted that current plans are to offer daily specials to go along with the tried and true established dishes.

The staff that provided service at the Adelphi site will be retained and working at the new location, Tommy said. However, the chef, Nicholas Alexander, will be new to the restaurant.

The brothers are planning a grand opening, so check back for more details soon.
