Lime Aims to Challenge Chipotle in College Park

With a complimentary salsa bar, bottomless chips and a warm atmosphere, Lime offers a different Mexican food experience for College Park residents.

Barely two weeks old and already striving to compete with College Park mainstay Chipotle, Lime Fresh Mexican Grill hopes to establish itself as the new hot spot in town by offering a more personal Mexican food experience.

“We’re the new kid on the block,” restaurant manager William Barrett said. “I think we appeal to a younger generation [with] a healthier product. It’s something new and exciting and fresh."

The restaurant, owned by Ruby Tuesday’s, is designed to compete with food giant Chipotle by offering “warmer” service. They also offer bottomless chips with a complimentary salsa bar, as well as happy hour drinks and food specials Wednesday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“Once you get inside [Chipotle] it’s very wood and metal and kind of cold,” Barrett said. “You’re cattled down the line and they scoop the food in like you’re in prison. We’re more friendly and outgoing. We’ll actually come to your table and take your order.”

Lime continues the trend largely started by big brother Chipotle of providing an alternative to fast food made from healthy ingredients approved by the Humane Society.

“Our products are 100 percent made fresh daily,” Barrett said. “The only thing frozen is the margaritas.”

Lime opened its College Park location on Oct. 10 as the first site in the state of Maryland. The restaurant also has establishments in D.C. and Virginia.

The restaurant is located off Route 1 in the downtown area of College Park, next to Five Guys and The Bagel Place.
