The Lakeland Youth Steel Band Orchestra made their concert debut at this year's National Night Out at the College Park Community Center. They learned the three songs they played that night in the four weeks leading up to the event. All of the band members are students at Paint Branch Elementary School, who had never played a steel drum. The Aug. 3 concert was the culmination of the lessons paid for by Lydia Laidlow, a teacher at the school and a Lakeland community resident.
