Kids Fishing Day, D-Day Recollections: Prince George's Weekend Events

Kids Fishing Day

  • Where: 10901 Scarlet Tanager Loop Overlook, Laurel
  • When: Saturday, June 8, 8:30 a.m.–12 p.m.
  • Description: Activities will target youth who have little or no fishing experience. Boys and girls ages 15 and under. The refuge will supply all fishing poles and bait for the children to use. No personal fishing gear will be needed or allowed during this event.

Downtown College Park Farmers Market

  • Where: College Park City Hall, 4500 Knox Rd., College Park
  • When: Sunday, June 9, 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
  • Description: Drop by for a selection of healthy and locally grown food products, including offerings from Bill's Backyard BBQ, Grandma Vera's Bakery, Heavenly Created Desserts, Lynette's Cakes, Miller Farms, Pleitez Produce, Smith Meadows, and Toigo Orchards.
  • Cost: Free to attend

Bowie Baysox Game

  • Description: All are invited to come out and enjoy America’s national pastime. Baysocks will face off against the New Britain Rock Cats.

  • Where: 12803 Sholton St., Kettering
  • When: Saturday, June 8, 7:30 a.m.
  • Description: Hundreds of items for sale, outside and inside the house. Antiques, Furniture, Artwork, Housewares, Tupperware, Pyrex,

D-Day Recollections

  • Where: 2608 Mitchellville Rd., Bowie
  • When: Friday, June 7, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 1 p.m.–5 p.m.
  • Description: As a special remembrance of the 69th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion, during opening hours the NCRTV Museum will broadcast continuous excerpts of CBS News broadcasts from those days. Not long after midnight Eastern time, Robert Trout broke into the regularly scheduled program to announce that Allied forces were landing in Normandy. As the evening moved on, programming was more frequently interrupted until only continuous coverage of the event was on air.

Learn Beginner's Photoshop for Designers

  • Where: South Bowie Library, 15301 Hall Rd., Bowie
  • When: Saturday, June 8, 10:30 a.m.
  • Description: Classes are being offered beginning June 1st and will be held at the South Bowie Public Library. For more information or to register, please email learnpsbowie@gmail.com.

Summer Arts F.I.T.

  • Where: Charis Center for the Arts, 13010 8th St., Bowie
  • When: Friday, June 7, 7 a.m.
  • Description: The Charis Center for the Arts is excited to announce open registration for ARTS F.I.T. summer camp beginning June 10 and ending August 17 at 13010 8th St., Bowie. The Charis Center will be open between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., with classes beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 5pm. Students may register in 2, 5 or 10 week blocks.

Coast of Maine-Soil Seminar at Patuxent Nursery

  • Description: Anita Dafonte is the regional manager for Coast of Maine Organic Products and she will be here to share her twenty years of practical organic gardening advice.   • Description: The classic story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, with singing, dancing, and pageantry.
