Our top picks for your weekend.

This week's wonderful weather is expected to grind slowly to a halt come Saturday, when we will be forced to trade our sunglasses for rain slickers and move our outdoor dinner parties back inside. 

While many of this weekend's picks do involve some interaction with the elements, many of them are happening rain or shine --  so don't let a few drops deter you from savoring spring!  

UMd. Landscape Management Club Annual Plant Sale

When/Where: Comcast Center Lot 4B, University of Maryland, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. 

Why Go: Trees, shrubs, hanging baskets, blueberries, roses, perennials and annual flowers will be for sale. Students will be available to provide landscaping advice and offer suggestions on where to plant your new purchases. All proceeds will go toward the travel expenses for the 2012 UMd. Landscape Team for a competition at Kansas State University.

When/Where: , 4811 Riverdale Rd., Riverdale, MD, Saturday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Why Go: Built in 1801, the Riversdale House Museum is old. But ancient Rome is even older. Nevermind if you've toured the historic Prince George's County mansion before -- ancient battle reenactments and a catapult demonstration are sure to put a new twist on an old favorite. 

Pricing: $5 for adults, $3 for students

 

When/Where: NASA, 8800 Greenbelt Rd, Greenbelt, MD, Saturday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. 

Why Go: NASA Goddard is something of a local treasure: It's at this location that some of the world's foremost scientists and engineers research and build new technology for exploring space. Goddard will be opening its doors on Saturday rain or shine to give the public a peak at the research and projects that take place inside. In addition to plenty of science, the event will feature food, crafts and entertainment.

College Park Animal Welfare Committee Community Yard Sale

When/Where: The parking lot at , 5211 Paint Branch Parkway, College Park, MD, Saturday, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. 

Why Go: Do some spring cleaning, and help out the Animal Welfare Committee (AWC) while you're at it. 

Pricing: Free

 

When/Where: , 4315 Underwood St, University Park, MD, Saturday, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. 

Why Go: The University Park Elementary School PTA will host the 42nd Annual May Fair, rain or shine. The event will include: food, a bake sale, make-and-take crafts, carnival games and prizes, a moon bounce, horse and pony rides, miniature golf,  jousting, a basket raffle and entertainment. 

All proceeds from the event will go toward the PTA's projects.
