UMUC Hosts “The Poetics of Water” Exhibition

Beginning Oct. 31, University of Maryland University College (UMUC) will host “The Poetics of Water” exhibition featuring the collaborative efforts of international artist collective Take Me to the River (TMTTR), local arts groups Arts for the Aging and Life Pieces to Masterpieces and visual artists from around the world.

TMTTR worked with Washington, D.C. poets Kim Roberts and Dan Vera to conduct poetry workshops focused on the universal theme of water. Members of Arts for the Aging, which provides older adults with art experiences, along with members of Life Pieces to Masterpieces, an educational program for African American males from underserved communities, attended several workshops and crafted poems. TMTTR then selected a group of visual artists from the region and abroad to create multimedia artworks based on the poems. The resulting exhibition blends multicultural experiences of water with poetry and art. The exhibition is free and open to the public. An opening reception for the exhibition will take place on Thursday, Nov. 10 from 6-8 p.m.
