Editor's Pick for the Weekend

Berwyn Day and the Matter of Origins dance performance should keep the weekend free from boredom

There are two excellent events happening in College Park this weekend.

The first, as you already know, is Berwyn Day. A longstanding College Park tradition, Berwyn Day will feature such kid friendly activities as a moon bounce and arts and crafts table. Let them work off their bake sale-induced sugar rush with old fashioned games like an egg toss and gunnysack race. In the meantime, grown-ups can enjoy a plant and garden show, booths from local vendors and a performance from the Fugitive Brass Band.

Berwyn Day will be held from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m. at the Berwyn Neighborhood Playground.

On Friday and Saturday night, The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center will be showcasing "The Matter of Origins," a visual tour through the world of physics from the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange. According to the website, the first act will consist of a performance that incorporates dance, video and a "vivid soundscape." Act 2 will involve chocolate cake made with recipe from Edith Warner, whose tea house was a gathering place for many of the scientists behind the Manhattan Project.

Cost of a ticket to "The Matter of Origins": $35 ($28 for subscribers). Enjoying the same cake that J. Robert Oppenheimer once did: Priceless.
